My name is Ismet Kursunoglu, MD, also known as Dr. "K" as heard on the weekly KMBQ Q99.7 "Ask Dr. K"show.
The most common question that I get is about my background. You can read more about me in the Physician link but briefly my parents moved to the United States from Cambridge England in 1952 when my father became a post-doctoral fellow of Hans Bethe at Cornell University. After completion of his fellowship my parents moved back to Turkey. But as good fortune would have it in 1957 my father subsequently landed a job at the University of Miami, prompting the family to move to Florida, where I was raised.
I am Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, specializing in Internal Medicine and Chest diseases, including; evaluations for wheezing, cough, shortness of breath, snoring, pulmonary embolism/venous thromboembolism (phlebitis/deep vein thrombosis), sinus diseases and infections, chest pain, exercise limitation, pneumonia, hypertension, cholesterol and lipid disorders.
My specialization includes the fields of Asthma, COPD, Sarcoidosis, Asbestosis, environmental and occupational related lung disease, smoking cessation with Chantix, and Interstitial diseases of the lung. I also have a special interest in reflux (GERD) and its impact on the upper airway and lungs.
My other areas of interest include Rheumatologic diseases (affecting the bones, joints, and tendons).
I also provide general prevention based check-ups including complete physical exams and DOT licensing physicals.
It is an honor and a privilege to serve you. Please feel free to call me with any questions at the clinic 907 357-7240. As a community service you are also welcome to join me and call into the live weekly radio show on Thursday mornings from 0800-0830 AKDT with your questions: 907-373-0997 or send an email to 'ask at alaskaclinic.com' (as one phrase and changing the 'at' to '@')
